Paediatric dentistry is all about looking after children’s teeth, gums, and mouths from infancy through adolescence. At Holford Partners Curaden, we make dental visits positive, comfortable, and even fun – so kids can grow up with healthy smiles and good habits for life.
Our paediatric dentists don’t just treat teeth – they also work closely with parents to help children develop strong oral hygiene routines.
Children aren’t just “small adults.” They have unique needs, and often shorter attention spans, so we use special techniques in paediatric dentistry to help them feel at ease.
We recommend bringing children to the dentist from around 6 months old – or as soon as their first tooth appears. This:
Paediatric dentistry includes both preventive and therapeutic treatments, tailored for:
We also check for any special health care needs and adapt our approach to suit every child.
We encourage children to visit the dentist at least twice a year for check-ups and cleans. The best way to prevent dental fear?
At Holford Curaden, we believe in proactive care – and that starts young. Interceptive orthodontic treatment is an early phase of care designed to guide your child’s dental development before all their adult teeth come in. Using modern, child-friendly techniques like Invisalign® First, we can address orthodontic concerns before they become more complex.
Interceptive treatment, also known as Phase 1 orthodontics, is designed for children typically between the ages of 6 to 10 –Â when baby teeth are still present and adult teeth are starting to come in. The goal is to:
Guide jaw growth and development.
Correct harmful oral habits (tongue thrusting, thumb sucking etc)
Make space for incoming permanent teeth.
Reduce the need for more invasive treatments later
Benefits of Early Intervention:
Helps prevent more serious alignment issues.
Reduces treatment time in adolescence.
Encourages better facial symmetry and jaw alignment.
Improves breathing and sleep quality (in cases linked to airway obstruction).
Builds your child’s self-confidence with early aesthetic improvements.
Invisalign® First is a clear aligner system specifically created for younger patients. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign® First offers:
Comfortable, removable aligners.
No metal brackets or wires.
Easier cleaning and better oral hygiene.
Customised treatment to suit growing mouths.
The British Orthodontic Society and American Association of Orthodontists recommend children have their first orthodontic check-up by age 7. Even if no immediate treatment is required, early assessment can:
Identify subtle developmental issues.
Monitor growth and intervene at the optimal time.
Prevent costly, complex issues later on.

At Holford Partners Curaden, we practice the latest and most effective preventive and therapeutic treatments for children.
If your child is feeling discomfort in their teeth or gums, you should call a paediatric dentist at once. Early detection and treatment of problems will save your child needing long and expensive procedures.

Part of a check-up is habit counselling. For example, you could get advice about pacifier use and thumb sucking.
The dentist will also teach the child and advise the parent how to take care of their oral health.
In addition, a dentist will do a diagnosis to uncover if the child has any oral conditions associated with major diseases like diabetes, heart disease, asthma and more.
During their check-ups, you will find out if your child needs orthodontic treatment, fillings, extractions or specialised paediatric treatments.
No matter how thorough you are at brushing and flossing, there will be areas in the mouth that can only be reached by a professional hygiene clean.
We usually advise bringing your child to a dental hygienist at least twice a year.
During a hygiene clean, the hygienist uses specialist tools to remove plaque build-up in your child’s mouth.
Your child may also have a fluoride application during their hygiene clean, if recommended by the dentist.

When you come to Holford Partners Curaden with your child who is suffering from oral discomfort, we will investigate their mouth, teeth, gums and soft tissues using the latest technology available.
We will diagnose the problem with the help of an x-ray or an intra-oral scanner, where we will place a camera in their mouth to investigate what is going on.
At Holford Partners Curaden, you can be sure that no issue will be left unseen, and no pain will be left untreated for your child.
We can assure you that when considering paediatric dentistry, Holford Partners Curaden are your best option for your child’s dental needs, oral health and any issues that may arise. We will be able to detect and solve the problem for you and your child.
We offer a full range of orthodontic treatments, including lingual braces, which sit behind the teeth so they are hidden from view.
We also offer Invisalign, a transparent plastic aligner that straightens your child’s teeth discreetly.
To help your child’s newly aligned teeth stay in their new position, we fit fixed retainers and provide removable night-time retainers.
Our range of cosmetic braces offers a variety of treatments to suit different needs and budgets. We also offer payment by interest-free instalments to help spread the cost of orthodontic treatment.
Generic mouth guards do not fit the teeth and gums properly, which can lead to the device interfering with the bite and tooth position if used frequently. A custom mouth guard made by a dentist offers a better fit and more reliable protection for your active child.
Your child’s dentist will take an impression of their teeth for the laboratory technicians to produce a custom-fitted athletic mouth guard, sometimes called a gum shield.
With a custom dental mouth guard from Holford Partners Curaden, you can help protect your child’s teeth and soft tissues during contact sports.
Our mouth guards are comfortable and durable. Contact us if you need one.
Composite fillings, also known as white fillings, are placed when your child’s tooth has been damaged or decayed. Before placing the filling, the decay is removed and the composite is applied to the cavity by the dentist.
If your child has sensitivity, pain or discomfort, it is likely that the tooth has been damaged or some decay is present. Having your child’s teeth checked while symptoms are mild can help avoid more complex procedures later. During a check-up we can find out whether your child needs a filling, and if so we will schedule one or more sessions depending on how many teeth are affected.
We will remove the decay and restore your child’s tooth using composite fillings, so it looks and functions naturally again.
The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic beforehand, so the procedure should be comfortable for your child.
Extractions are needed either as a last resort for a severely damaged or infected tooth, or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.
The procedure is straightforward and carried out under local anaesthetic, so your child should not feel pain during treatment.
If your child is having a tooth removed because of infection, the dentist may prescribe antibiotics beforehand to reduce the risk of complications.
All of these services are available at Holford Partners Curaden, so you do not need to visit several different clinics.
Gum disease is a leading cause of tooth loss, and many people, including children, are unaware they have it until they notice bleeding gums.
Protecting your child’s gums is the priority, and if gum problems do develop our specialist periodontist can treat them.
Treatment can include scaling and root planing, a thorough clean of the roots that removes plaque, tartar and bacteria. This is sometimes followed by a course of antibiotics where clinically appropriate.
For adult patients we also offer treatments including soft tissue grafting, gingivectomy and gingival sculpting.
Emergency Paediatric Dentistry: If your child is feeling discomfort in their teeth or gums, contact a dentist promptly. Early detection and treatment can help your child avoid longer or more involved procedures later. Book Emergency Appointment Now.

Holford Partners Curaden have provided treatment for different generations of the same families and children have grown up with us by their side, some of which now have their own children who are also patients at the clinic.
Yes, once your child has turned 7 years old or older we recommend an orthodontic consultation to assess and diagnose if a functional appliance and perhaps braces at a later stage are suitable treatments for them. Orthodontic treatment is a major part of paediatric dentistry. It is always better to treat the alignment of your child’s teeth as soon as the majority of their permanent teeth have developed and come through.
The best way to prevent cavities in your child’s teeth is to establish good oral hygiene habits at home, such as brushing and flossing regularly. Paediatric Dentistry recommends limiting your child’s intake of sugary and acidic foods and drinks, and encouraging them to drink plenty of water. Additionally, Paediatric Dentistry suggests having your child’s teeth sealed to prevent cavities and having them undergo regular fluoride treatments to strengthen their teeth.
First of all, you have to become an excellent role model who regularly visits the dentist. When you can, bring your child along to see you on the dental chair getting treated while looking comfortable and happy.
Make sure that you are treated by a warm and friendly dentist who won’t hesitate to interact with your child from time to time. When your child sees you having fun, there will be no negative stigma anymore.
Also, find a clinic that offers paediatric dentistry to cater to your child’s needs. Such a clinic is designed to psychologically make your child feel safe and comfortable.
Paediatric dentistry is one of many services we offer here at Holford Partners Curaden.
A child’s baby or milk teeth, also known as primary teeth, begin to loosen and fall out at about age 6. The teeth fall out to make room for permanent teeth.
However, the process can be delayed by as much as a year. Also, some people have conditions that make them keep their milk teeth until they are 14 years old or even adults.
A few baby teeth might never fall out, and adult teeth cannot replace them. Baby teeth that are never replaced are called retained teeth.
Retained teeth are typically harmless, but they can still cause some dental issues. For example, the retained tooth might be misaligned, and a patient may need orthodontic treatments.
Another problem it can cause is a gap that can be fixed by an implant.
It is recommended that you bring your child to the dentist at least six months after their first tooth erupts, which happens between 6 months to 1 year old. The key thing about paediatric dentistry is getting your child used to regular visits to the dentist and develop a good habit for the rest of their life.
It’s important to start talking to your child about visiting the dentist at an early age. You can use age-appropriate language and imagery to explain what to expect during the visit. You can also read books or watch videos together that explain the dentist and the importance of taking care of teeth.
The key to maintaining good oral hygiene at home is to establish a routine. You can start by brushing your child’s teeth twice a day with a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste, and flossing their teeth once a day. You can also help your child learn to brush and floss their teeth on their own by supervising them and offering guidance. Additionally, you can limit your child’s intake of sugary and acidic foods and drinks, and encourage them to drink plenty of water.
The most common oral health problems in children include cavities, gum disease, and injury to the teeth and mouth. Cavities are caused by the buildup of plaque on the teeth, which can lead to tooth decay. Gum disease is caused by a bacterial infection in the gums, and can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. Injuries to the teeth and mouth can occur as a result of accidents or sports-related activities.
